immune balance
tolerance & interactions

what does immune balance have to do
with me?

An unbalanced immune system may affect your chances of conception. Immune imbalance may inhibit the healthy development of sperm and egg, or the hormones required for pregnancy. Immune system imbalance may also cause inflammation which may prevent implantation.  A woman’s immune system may also react against sperm or a developing embryo.

A pregnant mum’s immune system is very different. It still needs to fight illness and toxins to keep the mother healthy, but it also must support immune tolerance so that it does not reject the foreign body that is the developing baby.

It’s a very delicate balance.

what can upset immune balance?

Your immune system balance may be upset by many things. Common causes include:
  • chronic infection or inflammation,
  • hereditary conditions like thrombophilia, rheumatoid arthritis and coeliac disease,
  • acquired conditions like Hashimoto’s disease, mast cell activation, psoriasis and anaemia,
  • illnesses like chronic fatigue and asthma.

Your environment may play a part too. If you consume or are exposed to too many toxins, your immune system may go into overdrive, triggering an inflammatory response.
